The Honey Wives of Jahlin

Through a joint initiative of “Friends of the Jahalin” and Bees for Peace, the “Honey Women of the Jahalin” group was established, a groundbreaking project that allows women in the community to become independent beekeepers, alongside their home, children, and life in the desert.
Ten women from the tribe set up beehives, cultivate nectar plants in the desert soil, learn new skills and terms, and together discover a wonderful world of bees, responsibility, and community. A dream born from the humble life in the desert became a reality: in the first year, high-quality honey was harvested, and from the wax the women learned to make spectacular handmade candles.

Beekeeping in the project is based on biodynamic principles - gentle work with nature, without chemicals and without “manipulations” in the hive, with the aim of strengthening the vitality of the bees and maintaining their health. The result is pure honey that preserves the nutritional and health values of natural honey. The honey has a unique flavor that tells the story of the desert and the local blooms.

The first supply of honey was offered for sale at the Rosh Hashanah Fair 2025 and was a great success with surprising flavors and quality. In addition to selling honey, the venture is also developing beeswax products, primarily candles, with the aim of expanding sources of income throughout the year. The cost of establishing one hive is approximately 1,500 NIS. Starting in the second year, each hive produces approximately 30 kg of honey per year.
